Dark green foliage on stiff, polished black stems makes it one of the most sought after bamboos. Culms turn black after 18 months to 2 yrs. Makes an outstanding container plant or specimen plant in the ground with its graceful habit and unusual culm color. Beautiful, deep emerald green leaves on evenly spaced, straight culms. Plant grows tall and erect with shorter branches giving it a tall ?columnar? look. It falls somewhere between a runner and a clumper and is quick to produce large shoots. This bamboo makes an excellent focus plant or tub plant or screen.

A truly unique bamboo species in that its leaves are very wide and short. The deep emerald green color of the foliage gives it a bold tropical look. Excellent choice to contrast with finer leafed bamboos. Easy to grow, quick to establish itself and a robust spreader with dense foliage of large fat leaves. Very distinctive species.

The tallest of the clumping Fargesia species, Scabrida displays beautiful reddish-orange culm sheaths and long emerald green leaves. Reaching a mature height of 16 ft. allows numerous screening options for landscapers and homeowners alike. Chusquea Gigantea

 

Indigenous to the country of Chile, Chusquea Gigantea is a very large clumper that can reach heights of 30 ft here on the Pacific coast although a height of 20-25 ft is more realistic. Rufa has beautiful, orange-red cane sheaths complimenting a delicate leaf structure. A vigorous grower that is quick to attain mature height. Fargesia Murieliae / Umbrella Bamboo

A high mountain bamboo from central China, this clumping bamboo is a lovely, attractive species which is the hardiest bamboo available. Colorful culms compliment leaves that are small, and lancet-shaped. This delicate yet hardy species looks great in a pot and although it can handle partial sun, it looks its best in the shade.

Thamnocalamus Crassinodus

 


   

Native to South Africa, this graceful clumper needs deep shade to look its best. New canes emerge grey-blue turning hues of burgundy and purple with light sun exposure. The foliage is petite and delicate, giving an airy appearance to the entire clump. Although somewhat slow to establish itself, with its upright stature, tiny leaves and colorful canes, it can be one of the most beautiful specimen plants in any garden.

Phyllostachys Nigra Megurochiku

An interesting form of P. Nigra that has a black stripe on the sulcus of the cane. Like all phyllostachys species, Megurochiku will spread steadily as it matures. Dark brown/black coloration on the culm appears after a couple of years. Trim the lower foliage on this robust grower in order to showcase the unique coloration.

Phyllostachys Bambusoides / Japanese Timber Bamboo

 

 

One of the tallest of the bamboo species, this giant is noted for its strong, straight culms and is used for building and structural work in Japan. Culms may reach up to 4 inches in diameter here on the west coast. Bambusoides is a strong grower and sends up very tall shoots in early summer with long branches. Not as aggressive as Vivax.

Phyllostachys Bambusoides Castillon

 


 

 

[RARE] Bright yellow with vertical green stripes in the sulcus, this is one of our most beautiful bamboos. Similar in appearance to the rare Phyllostachys Vivax Aureocaulis, this specimen can even sport variegated leaves. A must have for any collector.
